The town of Guareña, with approximately 7.500 inhabitants,
is at present one of the most representative towns in Lower Extremadura,
and offers the visitors a peaceful, rural and hospitable environment.
Its church Santa María, pertaining to the Renaissance
period with gothic reminiscence, of extraordinary proportions, raises magestically
over the rest of the urban development organization of farmer large
houses of the XVI to XVIII centuries.
It is also worthwhile visiting the Town Hall building, which
rises not far away from the church, with its façade with elegant
and sober, classical design built in granite ashlar, its strong overhanging
cornice tops out with Herrerian style round ornamental elements and its
central atrium.
